Leadership Experience

I came home to Malaysia, after attaining my education in the United States, and went into the Kuala Lumpur media Market. I have worked in leadership roles in BFM 89.9, where I headed the video team, and with Iman Media, where I started as the head of the video team and eventually recieved a promotion to Editor-in-Chief of the entire publication.

When I started, BFM had a small video team – a diverse group of artists, theater performers, musicians and some very junior filmmakers.

Over three years, I developed this team into one of the most recognizable brands in the online Malaysian market. I was a more developed filmmaker than the rest of the team, so I was able to merge these divergent creatives into a sum greater than its parts.

Many of my former team are now micro-celebrities in their own right and the platform is able to capitalize on Malaysia’s urban professionals.

With Iman Media, I built the team from scratch.

BFM was already moving in the direction of digital when I came to it – my video team was just one of many moving parts.

So I had to build a digital media team. One by one I brought on new people. Through an often painstaking process, I mentored them, guiding their creative energy into products which fit with Iman’s market.

I am now starting my journey as Iman’s editor in chief, and managing people is integral to managing my company’s transition to being a more digital-first platform. We have already started programs of online-classes, live streams, and various in person events.
